Onboarding Quickly in a Complex Multi-Platform System
DOMAIN
Self-service ordering platform for stadiums, restaurants, and event venues
USERS
Admin users, suite owners, and guests
How I rapidly adapted to Cheq’s product ecosystem and drove UX improvements across multiple platforms.
THE BACKGROUND
Cheq powers seamless food and drink ordering across live events through mobile, kiosks, and POS.
I joined as a maternity leave cover, ramped up within two weeks, and quickly began delivering as the sole designer in a complex product ecosystem.
THE CHALLENGES
CHALLENGE #1
Rapid Industry Adaptation
Quickly learning industry-specific workflows and terminology in food tech while mastering live event operations and complex user roles to become productive immediately.
CHALLENGE #2
Multi-Platform Design Complexity
Navigating intricate design systems across mobile, kiosk, and POS interfaces while ensuring consistency and component integrity.
CHALLENGE #3
Balancing Incremental Updates with Major Initiatives
As the sole designer, I shipped incremental improvements while leading a high-impact UX project.
THE ACTIONS
Aligned design requirements with PMs and engineers to reduce ambiguity.
Delivered usability and UI flow improvements across multiple projects.
Streamlined handoffs and ensured consistent use of design components.
THE OUTCOMES
01
Shipped 10+ UI/UX improvements in the first 2 months
I quickly learned how Cheq’s multi-device ecosystem (PWA, POS, Handheld) was interconnected and how one update could ripple across all UIs. This rapid adaptation enabled me to handle constant requests from PMs and successfully deliver 10+ design improvements in my first two months.
Example:
One update cascaded across PWA, POS, and Handheld UIs
02
Recognized as a trusted contributor
By ramping up quickly and supporting multiple cross-functional requests, I became a go-to designer within weeks—trusted by PMs and engineers to deliver clear, consistent updates.
“You’re doing great! Thank you for jumping in so quickly and delivering requests so smoothly.”
